Picked up this sad looking string of dolphins only to see that it has scales AND mealybugs ... Would you guys try and treat it or just cut off and clean parts to try propagating?

Found some fallen tradescanta at the store and asked if I could have them, they said yes. They are not in great shape but I have space so why not try. This one how ever has some roots already started. Would you put it in water with the rest or straight in dirt?

This time some branches are growing with this coloring on the leaves. Is this a variegation that I could try to save cuttings of before cutting down the whole tree again or is the tree sick?
